These are special guided tours with visits from individuals out of the past at Missions San José de Tumacácori, San Cayetano de Calabazas, and Los Santos Ángeles de Guevavi. The tour begins at the Tumacácori visitor center and travels in vans to the other two sites. The tour will run from 9:30 A.M. until 3:30 P.M., with a stop for lunch in the middle. Interpretive talks and living history presentations at all three sites tie the three missions together.
The dates for the Three Mission Living History Tours are the following Wednesdays in 2008: January 16, February 13, March 12, and April 9.
Each tour begins promptly at 9:30 A.M. at the Tumacácori visitor center, where Padre Francisco Garcés will meet the participants on a guided tour of the grounds. Then the tour participants load into vans for the drive to Calabazas, where Rita Durán, a native of Tumacácori and wife of rancher Ignacio Pacheco, meets the group during the guided tour there. After a stop for lunch, the tour proceeds to Guevavi, where they are met by Juan Bautista de Anza, second Captain of the Tubac Presidio during the ranger guided tour of that site. After a final question and answer session, the group returns to Tumacácori by 3:30 P.M.
Reservations are required, and a non-refundable fee of $25.00 per person is charged. Reservations can be made in person at the TumacácoriVisitorCenter, or by calling the park at (520) 398-2341, extension 70. Have your credit card number and expiration date ready when you call to make your reservation. Checks or money orders must be received within five days after the reservation is made, or the reservation will be cancelled.
The tours are not wheelchair accessable. There is some walking on uneven terrain at each site, with one short uphill section of trail. Participants need to bring lunch, water, clothing appropriate to the weather, and comfortable walking shoes.
