Encounters: A History of the Pimería Alta (Southern Arizona and Northern Sonora, Mexico) is a dynamic, hands-on Teacher Guide that traces the local history and culture from Native Americans (O'odham and Apache) through present-day themes and research. Different from other guides, it emphasizes the local history and people unique to the Pimeriá Alta, the area in which we live.

The guide contains twenty, hands-on lesson plans that can be easily reproduced with minimal, if any, cost to the educator. Although written for and correlated to Arizona State Standards for 4th Grade, the lessons are appropriate through 8th Grade, and the contents applicable through High School. Each unit also has concise and simple to understand "Teacher Background Information" to introduce important themes and concepts; a history lesson in itself.
