FIGHTING FOR DEMOCRACY:

WHO ARE THE “WE” IN WE THE PEOPLE?

Traveling Exhibit at Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site

July 25, 2009-January 10, 2010, Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site is hosting a traveling exhibit entitled, Fighting For Democracy: Who Is The “We” In “We, The People”? This exhibit is presented by the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, an educational program of the Japanese American National Museum, to advance the understanding of, and commitment to, American democratic ideals.

Through the diverse perspectives of seven ordinary citizens whose lives and communities were forever changed by World War II, this exhibition asks visitors to think critically about freedom, history, and, ultimately the ongoing struggle to live democratically in a diverse America.

The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site is the third venue of a five-year, 10-city tour to display the exhibition. Fighting For Democracy: Who Is The “We” In “We, The People”? is made possible with major support by the U.S. Army Center for Military History and The Boeing Company. Additional support for the Tuskegee presentation is provided by Chevron.

The exhibit is located in the Hangar #1 Museum and is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday only.  For tours come to the park Visitor Center at 1616 Chappie James Avenue, or call 334/724-0922 for a Ranger to assist you.
