The National Park Service Transportation Planning Guidebook
The National Park Service Transportation Planning Guidebook is intended to help NPS personnel understand how to work within the framework of Federal transportation legislation to solve transportation problems and create new opportunities. An important purpose of the guidebook is to share experiences between park managers who may be facing similar challenges and learning from successful partnerships.
The National Park Service's Transportation Management Program (TMP) offers exciting new opportunities to design and implement innovative transportation solutions within the national park system. However, beginning the TMP planning process can often be confusing. Many activities are required, and there is a variety of background documentation to review. This site serves as a useful, centralized TMP Planning Checklist to ensure that parks engaging in transportation planning cover all the bases.
Service Times and Capacity at National Park Entrance Stations Long queues of vehicles at Park entrance stations during peak season is a problem for many National Parks and Monuments. This report will be of interest to Park Superintendents, Chief Rangers, Facility Managers, Fee Managers, and Park Planners at these Parks. Three case studies are presented to illustrate how Service Times and Capacity at National Park Entrance Stations can be used to design new or replacement entrance stations or to improve the efficiency and operation of existing entrance stations. |
