NPS Operations       I recognized the importance of the other divisions and the need to share information, staff, and funds between branches and divisions.- Course Participant
This competency encompasses a general comprehension of the basic operations of the NPS, especially at the park level; how these operations interact to fulfill the Mission of the NPS; and why visitors come to parks and how the NPS "manages" them.

NPS operations forms the largest part of Compass II, and participant comments indicate that an increased understanding of NPS operations was one of the most helpful parts of the course. The numbers bear that out, with individual's self-assessment increasing from an average of 2.3 before the training, to 3.6 after.

Over 75% of respondents said that as a result of Compass II they are more effective at supporting members of other divisions because they understand their role in achieving the NPS mission. Seventy-two percent now apply knowledge gained regarding the variety of NPS operations.
