TEL – Resolving Performance Issues
Description: This is the second module in a three-part series entitled “Confronting Performance and Conduct Issues”. This training is provided to supervisors who want to understand and apply informal and formal methods for correcting and resolving performance problems among employees. This topic is one of the priority areas identified by supervisors where more knowledge and assistance is required to resolve performance issues early and effectively.
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
Explain the difference between a performance problem and a conduct problem
Understand a supervisor's role and responsibility in resolving performance issues
List regulatory issues involved with handling a performance problem
Know when a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) must be established
List redresses for unacceptable performance
Determine when it is appropriate to deny a within-grade increase
Course Objectives:
List three reasons why it is important that supervisors know how to deal with employee problems in the workplace.
Explain the difference between an employee performance problem and an employee conduct problem.
List the pre-requisites for resolving employee performance problems.
List three methods for resolving performance problems that you can use prior to implementing a formal Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).
Explain when a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) must be established.
List the items that must be included in an “Opportunity to Improve” letter.
List redresses for unacceptable performance.
Describe the supervisor’s role and responsibilities in resolving employee performance issues.
