Program Title: Leadership Seminar

Number: SML-4001

Program Description: The 40-hour Leadership Seminar will help supervisors and managers gain a new understanding of their personal leadership characteristics and increased appreciation of the diversity and strengths of their employees. It will also help them manage and adapt to change in the workplace. The seminar consists of a series of critical leadership issues presented for open discussion. Participants will be asked to review their current thinking and practices as they relate to the issues. In the end, each participant will address the question, "What personal responsibility will I accept to make a difference?" A special feature of this program is BENCHMARKS, a confidential, professionally designed multi-rater assessment that will help the participants develop a better understanding of their personal leadership skills and perspectives.

The Seminar will fulfill DOI requirements for performance appraisal and risk management training, and NPS requirements for financial/asset management training. It will fulfill the OPM requirement for a 40-hour supervisory training program every two years. It will also provide an introduction to cost-saving alternate dispute resolution techniques. Participants will include all permanent supervisors, work leaders, managers, and executives in every NPS office. All grade levels, disciplines, and job series are included. Anyone who is a "designated leader" may attend, regardless of their supervisory status.

Program Title: Situational Leadership

Program Number: SML-3001

Program Description: The two day Situational Leadership training focuses on the three skills of a Situational Leader: Flexibility, Diagnosis, and Contracting for Leadership Style. Four styles of leadership will be described: Directing, Coaching, Supporting, and Delegating. Participants will learn what an effective leader does in each of these four styles and about the leadership style(s) they tend to use when managing others.
