Essential Competencies

ENTRY LEVEL

Description: This competency includes the ability to read, write and comprehend knowledge concerning the value of visitor studies to the national park service.

1. Application of the results of previous visitor studies.
2. Recommendation for future visitor studies.
3. Assisting in on-site visitor studies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of NPS mission and goals

Knowledge and understanding of previous visitor studies conducted in their park.

Knowledge and understanding of the value of past visitor studies to their park operations.

Ability to assist in future visitor studies if called upon.

SUPERVISORY LEVEL

Description: This competency includes the ability to read, write and comprehend knowledge concerning the value of visitor studies to the national park service and how to organize and implement a useful study for their park.

1. Application of the results of previous visitor studies.
2. Recommendation for future visitor studies.
3. Organization and implementation of a visitor use study.
4. Implementation of operational initiatives based on the results of previous visitor use studies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of NPS mission and goals.

Knowledge and understanding of previous visitor studies conducted in their park.

Knowledge and understanding of the value of past visitor studies to their park operations.

Ability to assist in future visitor studies if called upon.

Ability to organize and implement useful visitor studies.

Ability to organize and implement the results of a useful visitor study.

MANAGEMENT LEVEL

Description: This competency includes the ability to read, write and comprehend knowledge concerning the value of visitor studies to the national park service and in particular to their site and it's operations.

1. Application of visitor use studies in park management planning.
2. Implementation of management initiatives based on the results of previous visitor use studies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of previous visitor studies conducted in their park.

Knowledge and understanding of the value of past visitor studies to their park operations.
