Human Resources ensure the right people with the right skills are in the right place at the right time.

The Human Resource Competency Model describes technical and general competencies for the career field.

 

Administration

A variety of job titles make up the Administration Career Field. Each job requires its own competencies or skills for professionals in the field. A list of competencies by job title can be found on the NPS Essential Competencies website.

Property Managers, visit the property management website for online tutorials, job aids and frequently asked questions about Flashpoint for the Fixed Asset System.

Travelers and purchase agents must complete charge card training.

Project Management Information Systems database helps you control and track park projects. An online course is available through DOI Learn or you can donwload a .pdf file to Create a Project and job aids for reporting at the PMIS Help website.

Contracting

As Park Service contracting professionals, your role as technical advisors and acquisition specialists is invaluable to the success of the NPS. Visit the contracting website for links to updates, general acquisition and program specific policy and guidance.

IDEAS requisitioners, approvers and procurement staff must complete annual certification between Oct 1, 2011 and Dec 1, 2011. You must register in DOILearn, complete the sections that relate to your role and then return to DOILearn to take the certification assessment. You must achieve a passing grade of 80% to meet the annual requirement.

Contracting professionals are required to maintain certifications. The Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI) has developed essential competencies for competitive sourcing, program/project management, architectural and engineering and contracting officer technical representatives. Learning & Development

Members of the learning and development division includes training professionals at the four training centers, the organizational development office and the regional employee development officers. Their role is to promote employee development through competency gap assessments and planning for closing those gaps, to lead and facilitate organizational change and to assess and develop an organizational culture that leads to an effective and efficient bureau of the Department of the Interior.

New ItemPresentation Skills Development Program. Three days of presentation skills training for subject matter experts who have been involved in instructing for their program area. This is not an open enrollment session. Training leaders for program area courses may request this customized program for their instructors by contacting the ABCS Training Manager.
