" Folks in communities around this park know they don't have to choose between economic and environmental concerns; the tourism that drives their local economy depends on good stewardship of their local environment."
-President Barack Obama-
National Strategic Tourism Plan
The underlying assumption behind the NPS Tourism Strategy is the ability of tourism practitioners to assist in growing the capacity of the National park system. Together we will use market-based tools to communicate to consumers who travel the depth and breadth of park experiences. This exchange will help the organization learn about visitor trends and interests. By using the approach, NPS hopes to reach under-served demographics and other target audiences, and promote sustainable practices.
The NPS National Tourism Strategic Plan, developed by the National Tourism Council (NTC) has been reviewed and endorsed by the National Leadership Council (NLC). The plan is currently being implemented through pilot projects.
