NPS Photo Netleaf Hackberry fruits Berries were eaten fresh or dried for winter use. Parts of the plant were used for indigestion. Leaves and branches were boiled into a dark brown or red dye. The wood was used for firewood, bows, or to make handles for axes and hoes. The bark was used to make sandals. |
