This 9-26-09 Volunteer Day is part of our celebration of America`s National Parks. Learn more about the projects your local national parks and our PBS affiliate WJCT are doing to raise awareness of the special places and stories in your own backyard.

National Public Lands Day is the nation`s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve America`s public lands. This year, the Timucuan Preserve, along with the entire National Park Service, is participating in this volunteer effort in conjunction with the release of the new Ken Burns` documentary, "The National Parks: America`s Best Idea," premiering on Public Broadcasting Stations throughout the country on September 27, 2009.  Together, these events, plus the new local documentary about coastal north Florida and south Georgia parks, will expose the nation to the rich heritage and beauty represented by America`s national parks.
