Timpanogos Cave National Monument Visitor Center

Location The visitor center is located in American Fork Canyon on Highway 92 just 10 miles east from Interstate 15  and 17.2 miles from U.S. 189.  Approximately 40 miles from Salt Lake City. Information desk, exhibits, theater with orientation film and brochures.

Summer Hours: 
May 27-July 25, 2011, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Cave tours are available throughout the day.  First hike time to caves is at 7:00 a.m., last hike time to the caves is at 4:00 pm.

July 26-September 5, 2011 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Federal Holidays, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Cave tours are available throughout the day.  First hike time to caves is at 7:00 a.m., last hike time to the caves is at 4:00 pm.

July 26-September 5, 2011 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Cave tours will not be available on these days due to cave exit shelter construction requiring a complete cave trail closure to ensure safety.

Fall Hours:
September 6-October 16, 2011 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Federal Holidays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Cave tours are available throughout the day.  First hike time to caves is at 8:00 a.m., last hike time to the caves is at 3:30 pm.

September 6-October 16, 2011 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Cave tours will not be available on these days due to cave exit shelter construction requiring a complete cave trail closure to ensure safety.

The visitor center is closed during the winter.



Facilities
Western National Parks Association Bookstore is located in the visitor center.  Open during the summer season (May to October).  Call (801) 756-5238 for more information.

Timpanogos Cave Snack Bar and Gift Shop is located adjacent to the visitor center.  It is open daily during the summer season.  Call (801) 756-5702 for more information.

Restrooms and a pay phone are available at the visitor center.

Programs
Cave tours are offered daily during the summer and fall season.  Evening programs are offered every Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings from Memorial Day until Labor Day.  Junior Ranger programs are offered on Saturdays and Holidays, Memorial Day until Labor Day.

Helictite

Did You Know?
Timpanogos Cave is known for its high concentration of helictites - a spiraling cave formation that seems to defy gravity. Helictites are formed when calcite crystals and dissolved impurities are forced out of a tiny central canal in the helictite by hydrostatic pressure.
