Freedom/Slavery Program-Black History Month
Saturday, February 25

Thomas Stone was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, a document that proclaimed "All men are created equal." Yet, the document did not mean that when it was first created; in fact it would take a bloody civil war to finally answer the question. However, in Stone'...s own family, there were members who did not believe in the institution and would take it upon themselves to free their slaves, at great personal risk. Come learn about Moncure Daniel Conway, Thomas Stone's great-grandson, who freed his slaves and led them to freedom in the North.

Women's History Month Program
Saturday, March 24th

Park Rangers will present a power point program on the Women of the American Revolution. Women played an active role during the Revolution in many different areas; cooking, cleaning, caring for the wounded, and even branching out to become spies or soldiers. Included in t...he program are figures such as Martha Washington, Lucy Knox, Catharine Greene, Betsy Ross, Abigail Adams, Peggy Arnold, Molly Pitcher, and more.

*More information, including presentation times/topics will be available closer to event*

Junior Ranger Day & Stargazing Event
Saturday, April 28th
9:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.

Navigate Haberdeventure by historic practices through the "Orienteering Haberdeventure" program in correlation to Junior Ranger Day. Instructions on the use of a compass and 'pacing' will be provided to 'find your way' around this historic plantation. Make your 'mark' and... find clues to the next destination. The Junor Ranger event will culminate with an evening "star-gazing" program sponsored by the Charles County Astronomical Society, which will feature a "navigation by the stars" program, allowing visitors and participants to beter understand how people travelled in the 17th and 18th centuries without the use of a GPS unit. In addition, there will be a search for the constellations. As Thomas Stone looked to the heavens for the answers to his personal debate on whether or not to sign the Declaration of Independence, he saw the very same stars that we will see during this hands-on evening program. The park will remain open until 11:30 p.m. for this event.

Independence Day
Wednesday, July 4th
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

What better place to celebrate America's 236th birthday than at the house of a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Events will include a wreath laying ceremony, reading of the Declaration, colonial toys and games and tours of the house. Come join us as we honor Thomas Stone and pay tribute to the brave men and women that helped form a new nation, the United States of America.
