The story of Thomas Stone National Historic Site is not just the story of one of Maryland's signers of the Declaration of Independence. The telling of this story incorporates an almost two thousand year history. From Native Americans, to European colonization, to the struggles of the enslaved African-Americans, the story of Thomas Stone National Historic Site is not just one story, but many stories, told by the participants themselves.

Thomas Stone NHS is one of only four parks in the National Park System that have homes of signers of the Declaration of Independence still standing; Adams NHP in Massachusetts, William Floyd estate on Fire Island NS, and the Thomas Nelson House at the Yorktown unit of Colonial NHP are the others.
