When thieves stole Theodore Roosevelt's boat in 1886, he and his ranch hands built a new boat and chased them downriver. After apprehending the three men, Roosevelt singlehandedly marched them overland to Dickinson and collected a $50 reward while his ranch hands floated downstream to Mandan.
