Operating Hours & Seasons

The park is open 24 hours a day, year-round.

Portions of the South Unit Scenic Loop Drive and North Unit Scenic Road may be closed in winter due to snow and ice.  Click here to check the status of park roads.

VISITOR CENTERS:

South Unit Visitor Center
Open daily all year 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. MT with extended hours during the summer      

Closures - Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day

Painted Canyon Visitor Center 
Open April 1 - November 11 
Hours 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. MT with extended hours during the summer

North Unit Visitor Center 
Open daily April 1 to November 11
Rest of year open Friday, Saturday, & Sunday 
Hours 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. CT

Closures - Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

CAMPGROUNDS:

Cottonwood Campground 
Open all year. Limited services from October 1 to mid-May. Fees collected year-round.

Juniper Campground 
Open all year. Limited services from October 1 to mid-May.

Did You Know?
Coyotes and badgers both benefit by cooperating to catch prairie dogs. The badger tunnels into the prairie dog burrow after its prey while the coyote waits by the exit to catch prairie dogs fleeing from the badger.
