Visiting Scholar to Discuss Roosevelt and the National Parks

Dr. Stacy A. Cordery, a Visiting Fellow at the Theodore Roosevelt Center at Dickinson State University, will discuss Theodore Roosevelt, conservation, and the National Parks during a special presentation on Monday, April 25 at 7 pm MDT in the South Unit Visitor Center of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora.

The program is being held as the finale to National Parks Week and to celebrate the 64^th birthday of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which was established on April 25, 1947. Birthday cake and a book-signing will follow the presentation.

"We are so pleased to have someone with Dr. Cordery's expertise to talk with us about Theodore Roosevelt and National Parks," said Superintendent Valerie J. Naylor. "This will be a fun program in a conversational format that will be very appropriate for the park's birthday celebration."

Dr. Cordery is a historical biographer by inclination. She wrote the highly acclaimed biography, Alice Roosevelt Longworth: From White House Princess to Washington Power Broker as well as Historic Photos of Theodore Roosevelt. She serves as Professor of History and Archives Curator at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. When she is not reading Roosevelt's letters, she teaches courses about World War II, Women's History, the Vietnam Era, and the U.S. in the 20^th Century. She is currently finishing a book on Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts.    

The Monday evening discussion, introduced by Superintendent Naylor, is cosponsored by Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Theodore Roosevelt Nature and History Association (TRNHA). Dr. Cordery will be available to sign her books after the presentation. The books are offered for sale by TRNHA in the park's visitor centers.
