American Beauties: Past & Present

March 2007

Once again, the Costume Resource Center of the Theodore Roosevelt Site will join forces with some of Western New York’s premier florists to present an unforgettable special event. American Beauties: Past & Present will be held Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4, 2007. An all new collection of vintage bridal gowns dating from 1840 through 1940 will be shown with the addition of something new, mother-of-the-bride and bridesmaid ensembles. These exquisite gowns will share the stage with equally breathtaking fresh flowers. Bridal bouquets, table décor and fresh floral displays appropriate to each era will compliment the stunning fashions creating beautiful and nostalgic vignettes throughout the historic home. The fragrance and sight of these delicate blossoms accompanying treasures from the Costume Resource Center promises to be a treat for the senses.

American Beauties opens with a flourish on Friday, March 2, 2007. Guests will enjoy the first opportunity to view the gowns and floral displays at the TR Site and then proceed to the extraordinary Jacobs Executive Development Center (Butler Mansion) for a gala wine & cheese reception and fashion show. The grand staircase at the mansion will provide the perfect backdrop for the lovely “brides” in exquisite vintage bridal ensembles. Opening night attendees will also receive an invitation to visit the exhibit once again any time during the weekend. Tickets for this premier event are $40.

The exhibit at the Site continues Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. General admission tickets are $10 per person (presale) and $12 at the door. In addition to the beautiful wedding gowns and fresh floral designs, guests can get advice on preserving family treasures with Ellen and Vince DeWind of Angel Restorations.  Three special programs by the Site’s Costume Resource Center will be featured each day and refreshments – champagne and wedding cake, of course - will be served. Private group tours will also be offered at 9 am each morning by prior reservation. What better way to begin a memorable day than with sparkling mimosas and light brunch fare! An exclusive, in-depth tour with Costume Resource Center volunteers as well as time to tour on your own throughout the day are all part of the package. Tickets for the private tours are $20 per person and space is limited.
