History Mystery

Post-tour activity. History Mystery is intended to follow a museum tour.

This audience-participation activity uses 19th century artifacts to explore life in 1900. Students are shown, and volunteers from the class have the chance to demonstrate, common 19th century items and are directed in deducing what the objects were used for, who would have used them and how they were used. Discussion of the artifacts also highlights the differences between daily life in 1900 and today. This activity takes approximately forty-five minutes depending on the size of the class.

Recommended for grades 4-6, but can be adapted for middle and high school age students. Program length: 1 hour. Fee - $1.00 per student. All group tours are by reservation only.
