Grade Level:
Lower Elementary: Pre-Kindergarten through Second Grade
Subject:
Science

Acadia National Park, located on the coast of the state of Maine, is one of the few national parks with an iconic carriage road system. The carriage roads within the park total to more than 45 miles and are an excellent way to enter the heart of Acadia, whether on foot, by bike, or in a horse drawn carriage.

Have students observe the Waterfall Bridge video and generate I Notice, I wonder statements. These statements help promote descriptive observations, thoughtful questions, & relatable connection and can be used to complement a student-centered discussion.

For more information on carriage roads, read the Fast Facts: Waterfall Bridge article. For extended research, enjoy the Carriage Roads and Gatehouses page.
