Smokey Bear Visits the Preserve

Kids with Smokey
Kids wishing Smokey a Happy 70th birthday

Visitors enjoyed birthday cake, signed a giant birthday card, and sang happy birthday to a large 8 foot tall Smokey Bear doll, wishing Smokey a happy 70th birthday. Volunteer Gary Sillett played the guitar and sang the Smokey Bear Song to our visitors. Over 70 people were in attendance at the fun celebration. Smokey Bear stood guard all weekend in the visitor center breezeway, ready for any photo opportunity.

The 19 Smokey Bear Artwork Traveling Exhibit was shared among the preserve, Fort Scott NHS, and Fort Larned NHS and was a partnership between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, Kansas Forest Service, and the National Park Service.
