Flint Hills Scenic Byway)
* 16 miles west of Emporia on U.S. Highway 50 and 2 miles north
on Kansas State Highway 177
* 16 miles south of Council Grove on Kansas State Highway 177
* 85 miles northeast of Wichita on I-35 and Kansas State Highway
177
Getting
Here by Car
Traveling from the
east:
Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located 2 miles north of
Strong City, Kansas on Highway 177 (Flint Hills Scenic Byway). Travel
U.S. Highway 50 west from Emporia, passing through Strong City.
U.S. Highway 50 (east/west) intersects with Highway 177 (north/south)
approximately 1 mile west of Strong City. Travel north on Highway
177 for two miles. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is on the
west side of Highway 177.
Traveling from
the north:
Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located 16 miles
south of Council Grove, Kansas. Travel Highway 177 south from Council
Grove for 16 miles. The preserve is on the west side of the highway.
