national parks, places that provide refuge for plant and animal life and respite for
humans. Our parks are places we visit to clear our minds, rejuvenate our souls and
"get back to nature". What people do not realize is that the same environmental
problems facing our cities and towns are putting stress on fragile ecosystems in our parks
as well. Pollution of our air, land and water, encroachment on endangered habitats, and
over-consumption of natural resources are man-made problems that are putting our parks in
