Leah McGinnis to Serve as Acting Superintendent of Wupatki, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Walnut Canyon National Monuments

FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA - Leah McGinnis has been named to serve as the Acting Superintendent of the Flagstaff Area National Monuments - Wupatki, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Walnut Canyon, beginning February 14, 2013 for the next four  months. McGinnis will replace Diane Chung who is leaving to be the superintendent of Katmai National Park and Preserve, Aniakchak National Monument and Alagnak Wild River in Alaska.

 

Leah McGinnis, a career employee of the National Park Service for nearly 25 years, has worked for the past nine years as Chief of Staff at Grand Canyon National Park, and recently finished a four month detail as Grand Canyon's Acting Deputy Superintendent. During her time at Grand Canyon, her focus has been on partnerships, fiscal management, tribal relations, diversity, leadership and safety. McGinnis has also served as Acting Deputy Superintendent at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Acting Superintendent at Tonto National Monument. 

 

"I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the staff of the Flagstaff Area National Monuments," said McGinnis. "I feel privileged to be able to play a role in the management of the Monuments, and look forward to spending more time in the Flagstaff area." With a diverse background in building partnerships, motivating employees and formulating effective strategies, McGinnis will help to lead the Flagstaff Monuments into the months to come.
