Our Junior Ranger Program
Imagine the earth shaking beneath your feet while volcanic ash and hot cinders fall from the sky. What was that like for the Indigenous people who lived here when Sunset Crater Volcano erupted? What are scientists doing today to study volcanoes and earthquakes? What animals and plants are able to survive in this volcanic landscape?

Junior Ranger books are available at our visitor center. Books contain age-appropriate activities are available for Junior Rangers of all ages. Activities involve exploring the visitor center, hiking on one of our trails, interviewing a ranger, and more!

Books may be turned in at either the Sunset Crater Volcano Visitor Center or the Wupatki Visitor Center. Both museums have the Sunset Crater Volcano Junior Ranger badge.

Arizona Explorer Junior Ranger
National parks and monuments in Arizona also offer the Arizona Explorer Junior Ranger Program. Books for this program can be picked up at several NPS sites in the state, or downloaded ahead of time.
