Haines House

The Grant and Haines families were active Abolitionists and members of the Western Anti-Slavery Society. Abolitionist meetings were held on their 126-acres farm and national Abolitionist figures were guests in their home. Ridgeway Haines served on the planning committee for the W.A.S Annual Meeting several times in the 1850s, and was a friend to other documented Underground Railroad station conductors. Family stories and post-war articles indicate that the Haines House was also a station on the Underground Railroad.
