
The Institute for Freedom Studies serves to promote interdisciplinary research, teaching, and community outreach grounded in the scholarly study of American cultural history with a specific focus on the legacy of the enslavement experience and the Underground Railroad. Institute faculty members offer Underground Railroad courses each semester, which explore and critique the themes of freedom, slavery, and resistance.
