Orange Street Landing

One of the slaves, William Benjamin Gould, kep tthe only known Civil War diary of a black soldier who was former slave.  His great-grandson, Stanford University professor William B. Gould IV, has published "Diary of a Contraband:  The Civil War Passage of a Black Sailor."
