Henry, Sr., and Dorothy Copeland Burial Site

RICH SQUARE, North Carolina

Henry Copeland, Sr. (1801-1875) and his wife Dorothy were station keepers for the Underground Railroaed in Northampton County, North Carolina. They were Quakers and members of the Rich Square Meeting House. Though their home no longer stands, it was said to have had a secret hiding place to protect slaves seeking freedom. Their final resting place in Rich Square, North Carolina also contains the graves of other Quakers and members of the Rich Square Monthly Meeting who were associated with the Underground Railroad.
