July 21-22, 2012 - 150th Anniversary of Forrest's Murfreesboro Raid On July 13, 1862, General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his cavalry forced the surrender of Murfreesboro's Federal garrison. Although Forrest was unable to hold the town for long, this raid was the first of many daring rides into Union held territory that would make him one of the best known commanders of the Civil War. Confederate cavalry, Union infantry, and a number of civilians will share their perspectives of the first major engagement in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
October 26-27, 2012 - The Legacy of Stones River Symposium Join us for two days of scholarly discussions and park programs that examine the military, political, social, and cultural implications of the Battle of Stones River. December 22, 2012 - Stones River Campaign Bus Tour Spend the day with a ranger following the routes taken by the Union Army of the Cumberland as they slogged through rain, sleet, and mud to reach Murfreesboro. Along the way you will stop several times and discover the compelling engagements and stories that set the stage for the Battle of Stones River. This program will require reservations. A detailed schedule and costs will be coming soon.
December 26, 2012 through January 2, 2013 - Ranger Programs Park rangers and volunteers will present a variety of talks, walks, and battlefield tours that will tell the story of one of the bloodiest and most important battles of the Civil War.
December 29-30, 2012 - 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Stones River Join Union and Confederate soldiers as they share their battle stories while demonstrating the deadly weapons that killed or wounded thousands during a fight that altered the course of the war.
June 22-23, 2013 - The Tullahoma Campaign Visitors will watch Union infantry and artillery demonstrations during programs that tell the tale of one of the most effective campaigns of the war that began in Murfreesboro and ultimately ended with the Union occupation of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
December 6-7, 2014 - 150th Anniversary of the Battle of the Cedars Historic weapons demonstrations will highlight a weekend of programs commemorating the last major engagement in Murfreesboro that proved to be a critical part of the campaign that resulted in the decisive Union victory at the Battle of Nashville. |
