Fire Management

Prescribed fire behind the Michigan marker

Fire is one of many elements that may contribute to a healthy ecosystem. For more than a century, humans have suppressed fires in many National Park Service areas out of concern for life and property.

Stones River National Battlefield uses prescribed fires to allow this natural force to assist us in managing the park's unique cultural and natural resources.
