Terrain and other natural features had a profound impact on the Battle of Stones River. In order to maintain the cultural landscapes of Stones River National Battlefield, the National Park Service applies the latest science toward maintaining a healthy and diverse ecosystem.

Stones River National Battlefield contains a host of plants, animals, geologic features and other natural resources that are unique to Middle Tennessee and an added attraction for visitors.

The battle at Stones River claimed more than 23,500 casualties making it one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Stones River National Battlefield stands today as a silent reminder of those individuals who lost their lives there.
