Trail of Tears

In 1830 President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act. In 1838 and 1839 thousands of Native Americans from numerous tribes were forced to make the grueling journey from their homelands to the Oklahoma and Arkansas territories. The Old Nashville Highway served as one of the primary routes of the Trail of Tears.
