Citizenship document signed by Christian Nix
On November 3, 1857, Nix appeared before the Circuit Court of Milwaukee County and renounced all allegiance and fidelity to any “Foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Frederic Prince Regent of Baden whereof he is a subject” and became a citizen of the United States.

On June 4, 1861, at twenty-four years of age, Christian married Maria (Mary) Kasper of Arlington Heights, Virginia in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
