Hands-On-History Educator Workshops
 

Educators will explore the role of music in nearly every facet of the Civil War experience and discover how music can help students connect to history. Workshop Schedule

9:00 - 9:30 AM - Introduction

9:30- 10:15 AM - Museum Music - Teachers will participate in a scavenger hunt for music stories in the museum.

10:30-11:15 AM - Singing Their Way to Freedom - Listen to a former slave who became a Union soldier tell how songs helped him survive his bondage and the carnage of the battlefield.

11:15 - 12 PM - Martial Music - Join a ranger for an exploration of army music and its roles on and off the battlefield.

12:15 - 1 PM - Cover the Music - Teachers will participate in activities outlined in one of the park's curriculum based lesson plans.

Women At War: The Changing Roles of Women During the Civil War

 

 

Educators will learn how the Civil War changed our society forever by thrusting women into roles that had been closed to them prior to the conflict.

Writing At War

This workshop will explore how literary works, newspapers, and personal writing influenced public perception and memory of the Civil War. Teachers will also discover how to reinforce their language arts curriculum using the park's historic resources.

America's Best Idea in Middle Tennessee Workshop for Nashville Area Educators

Teachers will get a chance to discover ways to connect their students to the historic and natural resources of national parks near Nashville, Tennessee.

Parsons' Battery Exhibit

Did You Know?
The men of Parsons' Battery, Batteries H & M of the Fourth U.S. Artillery, fired 2,199 cannon rounds during the Battle of Stones River. That was more than ten percent of all of the Union artillery rounds fired during the battle.
