Calling all Middle Tennessee Shutterbugs in Grades 5-8!

Stones River National Battlefield invites middle school students in middle Tennessee to visit the park and take digital pictures to compete for first prize in two categories.

A Hard Earned Victory – The student photo that best represents the importance of the major Civil War battle that raged here from December 31, 1862 through January 2, 1863 will win this category.

The Living Battlefield – Students who explore and capture the natural beauty of the battlefield will have a chance to win in this category.

The winner in each category will receive a new digital camera. The runners-up will get a gift certificate to the park bookstore.

We encourage students and their families to participate in interpretive programs and become Junior Rangers during their visit. You can also learn more about other National Park Service sites that you may want to visit in the future.

Students must submit their photos (one per category please) by e-mail to e-mail us. Make sure to include your name, mailing address, phone number, and category. All entries must be received by Friday, July 24, 2009. The winners will be announced at a special ceremony at the battlefield on Saturday, August 1, 2009.
