Stones River National Battlefield
Glencliff High School Video Contest

Park ranger talks to kids.

Park Ranger John McKay talks to students in front of the Pioneer Brigade earthworks.

The National Park Service, Nashville Public Television and their partners invited students to visit Stones River National Battlefield, the National Park Service site closest to Nashville, to create a three-four minute video that answers the question, "What does our local national park mean to us?"

Some of the students used two video cameras donated to Glencliff High School by the Middle Tennessee Civil War Round Table.

On April 23, 2009, the winners were announced at a special ceremony at Glencliff High School. The first place team received video cameras and the chance to assist a Nashville Public Television team as they film Beautiful Tennessee, a documentary focusing on Tennessee’s national and state parks. This film will be aired in conjunction with the debut of Ken Burns’ new film, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea in September 2009.

The second and third place winners prizes from the Eastern National book store at Stones River National Battlefield.

This project was made possible in part by a grant from the National Park Foundation through the generous support of the Evelyn and Walter Haas Jr. Fund.
