Put your national parks in your pocket!

National Parks in Your Pocket

New York Harbor has 23 National Park sites, all of them easy to visit by subway, car or ferry. You can start visiting some of them now.

Explore Sandy Hook, Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and Fort Wadsworth, all within Gateway National Recreation Area. Enjoy a hands-on education program at the NPNH Education Center. Then travel to upper Manhattan to visit two National Memorials: General Grant and Hamilton Grange, honoring two American heroes.

National Parks in Your Pocket can be seen in three different formats. One of them is just right for your computer.

Original

The Statue's original torch was the first part constructed in 1876. In 1984 it was replaced by a new copper torch covered in 24K gold leaf which is lighted by floodlight at night. The original torch is currently located in the lobby of the monument. Access to the torch has been closed since 1916.
