The Steamtown Story

Railroading was, and is, a 24-hour operation, and special events, such as this 1998 night photo session at the Roundhouse help keep the past alive. When F. Nelson Blount began Steamtown as a private concern, this is what he was aiming for. Find out more about the history of Steamtown in this slide presentation.

This PowerPoint presentation covers approximately 25 years of the former Steamtown USA operation in New England and Scranton, as well as more than 20 years of National Park Service involvement.

"The Steamtown Story" began in the 1950s as a dream of the late F. Nelson Blount, founder of the Blount Seafood Corporation. Mr. Blount became a collector of vintage steam locomotives and rail cars, and founded "Steamtown USA". Items from the former Steamtown USA collection help form the basis of today's Steamtown National Historic Site!

Presented in the Steamtown Theater. Included in the Park Entrance Fee.

Did You Know?
Turntables give locomotives access to the roundhouse and allow them to turn around. Steamtown National Historic Site, in Scranton, PA, has a 90-foot turntable.
