Lackawanna Railfest 2008 Event Objectives

Lackawanna Railfest 2008 seeks to highlight advances in railroad technology by contrasting a variety of modern and historic rail equipment. This will be accomplished by presenting a variety of programs; visiting equipment owners will work with Steamtown NHS staff to develop public programs.

The event is designed to educate the public, many of whom mistakenly believe the rail industry is in decline, about the amazing environmental and technological transformation of the industry - especially during the previous 10-20 years.

It will strengthen the Park's relationship with major Class I freight and passenger carriers who will gain a better understanding of the mission of the Park and explore the mutual benefits of partnering with Steamtown National Historic Site.
