Steamtown NHS to Participate in Tobyhanna Army Depot Centennial

SCRANTON, Pa. - Tobyhanna Army Depot is the largest, full-service electronics maintenance facility in the Department of Defense is the largest employer in northeastern Pennsylvania and, this year, celebrates its 100th anniversary. Steamtown NHS will help mark this milestone anniversary with a special excursion to Tobyhanna on Saturday, June 23 to "Celebrate 100 Years of the Army at Tobyhanna - A Century of Honor, Excellence and Dedication to the Warfighter."
The Depot will host an Open House from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. that day, featuring guided tours of the Depot's mission area. To enter the installation, visitors over the age of 16 must have photo identification. Depot officials are planning special family-oriented activities during the train's visit, including a children's carnival, wall climbing, musical entertainment, a car show, historic military equipment and Humvee rides. Food and vendor tents will be available, and the Depot's "The Landing" restaurant will offer a specially priced buffet for Steamtown passengers. Additionally, the amazing U.S. Army Parachute Team "Golden Knights" will present a special parachute demonstration at 1:30 p.m.! This diesel-powered, handicap accessible excursion will depart the Steamtown Boarding Platform at 9:00 a.m., and is scheduled to return at 5:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $34.00 for adults 16 to 61 years old, $29.00 for ages 62 and older and $22.00 for children 6 to 15. Children to age 5 are free with a paying adult, but a ticket is required. Reservations must be pre-paid, and tickets are non-refundable unless the excursion is cancelled by Park Management.
