SCRANTON, PA Steamtown National Historic Site, downtown Scranton, PA is pleased to announce its upcoming 2007 holiday events, beginning with Veterans Day, Sunday, November 11. All veterans, members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families will be treated as guests of the Park, with entrance and activity fees waived for the day. It’s another way to express the gratitude of our nation to the men and women who’ve given their all to protect our country.

For the 6th consecutive year, the Canadian Pacific Railway will begin its Holiday Train event from Steamtown NHS on Saturday, December 1, between 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. The Park proudly partners with the Canadian Pacific Railway to promote awareness of the need to help stock food banks in local communities year-round, and especially at this most wonderful time of the year! Bring along non-perishable food items – better yet, cash donations increase the buying-power of the food banks – and enjoy the free entertainment and holiday festivities!

Steamtown NHS will also offer the “Holiday Express!” steam-powered excursions to Moscow, PA. Write your “Dear Santa” letter, bring it with you to drop into a special “North Pole” mailbox, and then join in the merriment and festivities at Moscow’s restored passenger and freight stations! Along with songs and stories, members of the Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley Chapter, NRHS, will provide a variety of fun activities at Moscow. Excursions will depart the Steamtown NHS boarding platform in downtown Scranton at 11:00 a.m. on November 23 and 24, and December 1 and 8. $16 – ages 17 and older, $10 – ages 1-16, under 12 months required a “no-charge” ticket. Reservations are required and may be obtained by phoning
(570) 340-5204,
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The “Scranton Limited” short rain rides will continue operating Wednesdays through Sundays through Saturday, December 29 (please note that the "Scranton Limited" train rides will not operate on November 23 and 24, and December 1 and 8).  These 30-minute train rides depart from the Roundhouse boarding area at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 and 2:15 p.m., operating with a historic diesel locomotive on Wednesdays. There is a $3.00 additional charge for this ride. Admission to the National Park grounds at Steamtown is $6.00 per adult, daily, ages 17 and older. Children under age 16, accompanied by an adult, are admitted to the Park at no cost. All walking tours offered by Steamtown NHS staff, including museum and theater access, are covered by this entrance fee.
