SCRANTON, Pa. – Steamtown National Historic Site announces an expanded 2014 summer excursion schedule, beginning on Saturday, May 24 and coinciding with a Memorial Day special event at the park titled, "Troops and Trains."

Our opening summer excursion will take place on Saturday, May 24, to Jessup, Pennsylvania for a taste of the borough's "St. Ubaldo Day" family-friendly festivities. This Italian heritage festival, "La Festa dei Ceri," ("Race of the Saints") is hosted in only two places in the world – Gubbio, Italy and Jessup, Pa.! The festival, held in Italy since 1160, was brought to the Mid-Valley community by immigrant Italians from the Perugia province of Italy in the early 20th century. The trip will depart Steamtown at 12:30 p.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $24.00 for adults 16 to 61, $22.00 for seniors 62 and older, and $17.00 for children aged 6-15. Children 5 and younger require a "no-charge" ticket, and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Excursion reservations may be made by phoning (570) 340-5204 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily.

Additionally, on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, the park will pay tribute to American servicemen and women during the park's special Memorial Day "Troops and Trains" event. Displays of historic World War II-era equipment and vehicles, along with a military encampment set up on park grounds, will showcase numerous items used by our military and be staffed by re-enactors who will explain to visitors the hardships of life during WWII. Park rangers will also present Living History programs throughout the day.
