2007 Lackawanna Railfest at Steamtown NHS
SCRANTON, PA – On November 2 through November 4, the National Park Service, in partnership with several regional rail preservation groups, is planning to host “Lackawanna Railfest 2007” at Steamtown National Historic Site, downtown Scranton! Planners are working to provide numerous visiting railroad equipment, steam passenger excursions, a “Night Photo” session along with a banquet dinner to kick-off the festivities on Friday, November 2. Scheduled activities include:
- Friday, November 2 - Opening Event Banquet, Radisson at Lackawanna Station Hotel. Information and reservations, phone (215) 757-7355.
- Saturday, November 3 - Steam-powered passenger excursion to the Delaware Water Gap, with a “photo run-by” westbound; departs 7:00 a.m. and is scheduled to arrive back at Scranton at 4:30 p.m.
o Tickets are $51 for adults 17 to 61, $46 for seniors 62 and older, and $30 for children ages 6-16. Children 5 and younger require a “no-charge” ticket. Limited first class seating in the Lehigh Valley “Black Diamond” #353 Business Car is available for $250 each (all ages); limited first class seating is also available in the “Chestnut Hill” lounge car at $200 each (all ages).
- Saturday, November 3 – “Night Photo” session, 7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m., featuring five separate photo shoot displays and locations.
o Tickets are $75 for all ages. This event requires a minimum of 50 advance-paid participants to register no later than October 27.
- Sunday, November 4 – Steam-powered passenger excursion to Moscow; departs at 1:00 p.m. and is scheduled to arrive back at Scranton at 3:30 p.m.
o Tickets are $21 for adults 17 to 61, $19 for seniors 62 and older, and $15 for children ages 6-16. Children 5 and younger require a “no-charge” ticket. Limited first class seating in the Lehigh Valley “Black Diamond” #353 Business Car is available for $150 each (all ages); limited first class seating is also available in the “Chestnut Hill” lounge car at $100 each (all ages).
Throughout the weekend, the park will present special theater programs, visiting equipment displays, including fully restored passenger cars, walking interpretive tours, cab tours of our Union Pacific #4012 “Big Boy” locomotive, “Scranton Limited” short train rides in the Steamtown Yards, and a variety of other on site activities. Reservations for the special train excursions and the “Night Photo” session open on Saturday, September 15, 2007.
Located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Steamtown is open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. From I-81, follow exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway); then, follow the signs to the main entrance at Lackawanna and Cliff Avenues.
