Plan A Field Trip

School field trips can be fun for everyone! You'll find the information you need to plan YOUR class Field Trip right here!

First, what entails a Field Trip to Steamtown NHS? With your Group Reservation Confirmation, you'll receive "Museum Track" guides for you and your adult chaperones to bring to the Park for your visit. Your group will be met and greeted by a Park Ranger at a scheduled time, and you'll receive a brief site orientation that matches the "Museum Track" guides you received.  The Park Ranger will review reminders about our mission to preserve this part of our industrial heritage for future generations, along with the public nature of our complex, the "no food, no candy or gum, no beverages" rule, and reinforce the fact that teachers and chaperones must remain with - and are totally responsible for the behavior of - your group at all times. From this point, your group will be on it's own to tour the museums and exhibits, see the theater movie, and - if you've arranged it - join us at the appointed time for a regularly scheduled Scranton Limited train ride!

Next, pricing information:
Teachers, chaperones and students 17 years and older are charged the standard Entrance Fee of $6.00; if you plan to ride the Scranton Limited short train ride, there is an additional $3.00 fee charged per person (Total cost per person: $9.00)

Students 16 years and younger are not charged the Entrance Fee, but are charged the $3.00 Scranton Limited short train ride.

Keep in mind that you must plan for a minimum teacher/adult chaperone-to-student ratio of 1-to-10. Maximum Field Trip group size is 100 students.

Finally, reservations are a "must"! To check for an open reservation date, please contact our Group Reservations office at 570-340-5339 during regular business hours, Monday - Friday, at LEAST one month prior to the date you'd like to visit us.

Three steam locomotives are visible in the doors of a roundhouse.

Did You Know?
Roundhouses were essential to steam railroading. Most steam locomotives required servicing about 150 to 200 miles when they were new. Find out more about what goes on in the Roundhouse at Steamtown National Historic Site.
