Platte River Campground Reservations Re-Opening for September 2012

The National Park Service is pleased to announce that anyone wishing to reserve a campsite at Platte River Campground within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for September 3-30, 2012 should visit www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 beginning at 10:00 a.m. on July 8. Platte River Campground also has a number of campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis for campers arriving without reservations.

The paving project originally scheduled to begin after Labor Day in Platte River Campground has been cancelled, and reservations will now be available through the month of September. Reservations will officially re-open starting Sunday, July 8, 2012. The campground is open year-round, and reservations are normally available from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through the end of September. The Piping Plover is an endangered species that makes its home on the wide open beaches of Lakes Michigan and Superior. Several nesting pairs have made the shores of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore their home. Their nesting areas have been marked so they will not be disturbed.
