Platte Riverbank Restoration Environmental Assessment Available for Public Review

The National Park Service at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore announces the availability of the Water Wheel and Casey’s Canoe Livery Restoration Project Environmental Assessment beginning on June 23, 2007. This environmental assessment (EA) describes past and proposed restoration efforts. Restoration for this project will focus on returning the riverbanks to a natural state. The document describes and compares the advantages and disadvantages of restoring the riverbanks and discusses the impacts associated with the alternatives. The Lakeshore welcomes the public to comment on the EA until July 23, 2007. The EA may be reviewed by clicking on the following link: Water Wheel EA. Comments may also be made from this link. Paper copies are available for review at the Lakeshore Visitor Center in Empire, as well as at area libraries. Comments may be mailed to the Lakeshore (Superintendent, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, 9922 Front Street, Empire, MI 49630).
