On September 26, 2009 Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Empire, MI will launch a new program called FUN (Families United with Nature) to connect more people to the outdoors. The Lakeshore will offer a variety of activities and programs throughout the year with incentives and prizes for those families that join FUN and pledge to spend time outside every week. At the kickoff campfire at 7:00 pm, FUN family members will receive journals to personalize and record their outdoor experiences, and learn about future activities. Don`t forget to bring your favorite marshmallow roasting stick and chairs or blankets!

Meet on the beach near the Cannery Boathouse in Glen Haven beginning at 7:00 p.m.

If you have questions, please call the park at 231-326-5134.

US Life-Saving Service

Did You Know?
During the winter of 1870-71, 214 people lost their lives in shipwrecks on the Great Lakes, and congress established the US Life-Saving Service to conduct rescues from shore. This became the US Coast Guard in 1915. Visit Sleeping Bear Dunes to see how these men lived and worked.
