In order to facilitate access for the purchase of Park Passes, Sleeping Bear has installed Pay Stations at three locations. One machine is located in front of the Visitor Center in Empire (on M-72, 500' east of M-22); another is located at the D.H.Day Campground; a third station is located at the Platte Point parking area (mouth of the Platte River).
These machines make it possible to purchase a Park Pass during hours that normal park facilities are closed. They may also be used during the day, if you wish, although we do prefer personal contact with our visitors. The machine at D.H.Day Campground is only available on a seasonal basis.
Operation of the Pay Stations is as simple as an ATM machine. There are screen prompts that guide you through the process. The machine accepts cash or credit cards (VISA, MC, Discover). Please be aware that if you use cash, your change will be issued in Susan B. Anthony dollars or the new $1 golden coins.
In addition to Park Passes, the machine at the D.H.Day Campground is also used for campsite registration when the campground is open. The machines at the Visitor Center and Platte Point are strictly for passes.
If you purchase an Annual Pass for Sleeping Bear Dunes from the Pay Stations, you will need to bring your receipt into a fee station for redemption for a more durable pass.
All passes are to be displayed on the dashboard or hung from the rearview mirror while in the park. If your pass is not displayed properly you may receive a "Fee Reminder" slip on your windshield. THIS IS NOT A TICKET! It is merely a gentle reminder to please display your pass properly. If you have not yet purchased a pass, please bring the slip into the fee station with you. We keep them for statistical purposes.
For a complete discussion of fees, please see the Fees page within this website. Thank you for your support!!
